The Torsion Bar is one of the two types of spring that have no "Design from Scratch" option.

Most applications are relatively simple so that a trial and error approach is adequate. The program will check the torsional performance of drawn circular wire, solid round bar, hollow round bar, solid rectangular bar and hollow rectangle bar. After selection of the section, only the inlet boxes applicable to that section are visible. Similarly, one or the other material drop-down lists are available, one for wire materials and the other for mechanical and structural steels. An experience factor can be applied to allowable stresses.

Pressing the Calculate button on the Analysis data input form produces the screen on the right to report the input values and the calculated properties. The interactive nature of the analysis input screen and the corresponding output screen makes it very easy to test the effects of dimensional and/or material changes on the predicted properties.
