Common features are listed at the bottom of the Home Page Both the Design and Analysis functions for Constant Force Extension springs are performed by the same form and option buttons are provided for selection of the required mode. Only the relevent text boxes are available for either mode. In the design mode, a default aspect ratio (material width/thickness) of 100 is already entered and it can be edited. Other inputs are the required extension, the rated load and the selected material The calculated properties
include the material width and thickness, spool diameter, natural coil
inside diameter, number of coils and other associated properties. A
stress factor is reported and its relationship to the anticipated life
of the spring is noted. |

On clicking the Analyze option on the Constant Force Extension Spring Design/Analysis form the text boxes are set to that mode. The input includes the spool diameter, the natural inside diameter of the coil, the material width and thickness and either the maximum extension or the total number of active coils. If the coil natural ID is unknown, the text box for it can be left blank and the program will calculate a preferred diameter and enter itin the box. The Analysis results screen shows the input values with the spring dimensions and the calculated properties inluding the initial extension (before the spring reaches the rated force), the estimated total material length, the loads at minimum and full extension, the maximum effective extension or the total number of active coils (depending on the data entered) and the outside diameter when the coils are fully retracted. |
